The event included 4 1/2 days of various learning modules designed to provide a well-rounded curriculum focused on the business of nephrology and leadership. Core education modules consisted of classroom lecture and case method sessions, round table panel discussions and offsite learning experiences.
With a diverse group of faculty and panelists, fellows were exposed to all aspects of the business of nephrology and heard insight from practicing nephrologists, hospital and dialysis executives, and professionals in the legal and financial industries.
From billing and coding workshops to practice economics to planning for their financial future, fellows were exposed to many unfamiliar topics and situations which they will face upon graduation and throughout their nephrology careers. The program also featured several outside networking events enabling fellows to relax, discuss topics learned, and create personal bonds with other physicians and industry leaders.
The goal for NBLU is to provide graduating fellows with the tools and skills needed to succeed not only find the right job, but to also ensure fellows have the highest probability of finding the best career match, whether joining existing practices or starting their own. Given the tremendous feedback from our 2016 attending fellows, we will seek to expand the number of sessions and geographic availability so that more fellows from across the country will have the opportunity to attend a NBLU event.
